It’s normal for people in a relationship to want to take a break sometimes. There are different reasons why people do it, sometimes, it’s because of jealousy getting to unhealthy heights, and other times, it’s just to take the focus off their partner and put it on their own life.

Now, these are very logical reasons, sometimes, these breaks help to make the relationship stronger and better when things get back on track, but I like to look at things from more than one perspective. While taking a break is sometimes good for a relationship, in that it can help a couple rediscover themselves and the whole point of being together, it can also lead to the death of a relationship. The moment you decide to stop being close to someone, no matter how momentarily, there’s a huge chance that you’ll lose interest in them. Relationships have ended that way— from taking a break, to gradually slipping away from each other’s thoughts, and probably meeting other people. And then, there’s the other reality there; can you really take a break from someone you care about? If you ever get to the point of wanting to be away from the one you care about, then maybe you just think you care, but you really don’t. No one truly in love can bear to be away from their partner, so if you ever have to contemplate taking a break, then, it’s probably a sign that the relationship is done for, and you guys need to move on. So rather than deceive yourselves, simply end it.

In my experience, breaks never really help.
