Fights and arguments are a usual part of a relationship but constant arguments with your partner could lead you to an earlier grave, a research by some Danish researchers reveal.
Interestingly, the study reveals that men are the most vulnerable. The study said: “Men respond to stressors with increased levels of cortisol, which may increase their risk of adverse health outcomes.” Men seemed to be particularly vulnerable to the worries and demands generated by their female partners. Also, those who were unemployed stood at a significant risk of death as well.
The study which was published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health reveals that frequent quarreling with your partner, friends, family and relatives increases the risk of death.
Previous research has gone on to show that people with high level of demands from their partner and children and people who argue constantly with family members are more likely to have heart diseases and stroke.
This research conducted by researchers from University of Copenhagen has gone further than that. They found that constantly arguing with your partner increases your mortality risk by two or even three times the normal rate.
The researchers said physiological reactions to stress, such as high blood pressure and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, were most likely to explain the increased mortality risk.
To conduct the study, data on 9,875 men and women aged between 36 and 52 was used to explore the relationship between stressful social relations and premature death.
In conclusion, the study said: “Men respond to stressors with increased levels of cortisol, which may increase their risk of adverse health outcomes.”
Hopefully, we get to see lesser fights and quarrels in families and relationships. I mean who doesn’t want a long, healthy life?
