9 WAYS TO SAVE YOUR RELATIONSHIP

sad-couple

It’s sad that most couples these days prefer to break up as soon as they have issues in their relationship and many people are also taking this attitude into marriage. We have to understand that a successful relationship requires patience and commitment.

Below are 9 ways to save your relationship

1. STOP DWELLING ON YOUR PARTNER’S PAST

If you are serious about saving your relationship, then you need to understand that you can never change your partner’s past. Instead of dwelling on your partner’s past, it’s important you put that energy into changing the present and future with your partner.

2. YOU HAVE TO FIGHT FOR WHAT YOU WANT

By fighting, I don’t mean exchanging punches or insulting your partner or other people. That’s so wrong. When you love something, you fight for it and protect it; you treat it like an egg. Learn to handle disagreements between you and your partner with care instead of taking the easy way out by quitting. You have to understand that disagreements are normal in every relationship but how you handle it can make or mar your relationship.

3. LEARN TO LISTEN

Most relationship problems would be solved or even avoided if we learn to listen. Most people don’t just know how to listen to their partner and it’s really sad. You have to understand that communication is essential in every relationship and communication isn’t effective if you only speak and don’t listen. Listening to your partner can help save your relationship as you get to understand your partner better.

4. LEARN NOT TO FORCE IT

Avoid forcing your partner to leave his/her comfort zone all the time. I see so many people putting too much pressure on their partner to change and I really think it’s wrong. Forcing change can trigger fights and misunderstanding and this isn’t what you want if you are trying to save your relationship. If you think your partner needs to change some certain habits, try to handle the situation together with your partner amicably instead of forcing it.

5. COMPROMISE IS IMPORTANT

If you are not ready to compromise then you are not ready to start a relationship. If you want to save your relationship, then you have to learn to go out of your way to make your partner happy sometimes. You can’t save your relationship by being stubborn.

6. UNDERSTAND YOUR PARTNER’S FRIENDS ARE IMPORTANT

If you want to save your relationship then you need to understand that your partner needs time and space for their personal needs which also includes spending time with friends. Your relationship shouldn’t limit you and your partner from having a social life.

7. FAMILY TIES ARE IMPORTANT

One thing I have observed with this generation is the way people treat their partner’s family. You have to understand that if you plan settling down with your partner in future, then you have to learn to communicate with your partner’s family. You mustn’t love them but you shouldn’t hate them and treat them like trash. I understand sometimes mother-in-laws can be annoying but you should learn treat them with respect and ask your partner for help if the need arises.

8. DON’T BE A CONTROL FREAK

You can’t save your relationship by being a control freak. Don’t try to be in control of everything in your relationship as this could lead to problems that could have been avoided easily.

9. LEARN TO TALK WITH YOUR PARTNER

Don’t expect your partner to know when something is wrong with you because your partner is no magician. Learn to talk with your partner if something is wrong. You can’t save your relationship by always harbouring grudges, speak out. Learn to have a good conversation with your partner too. Share jokes, and talk about everything you can think of with your partner as this helps build a connection between you and your partner thereby saving your relationship.
