8 WAYS TO MOTIVATE YOURSELF WHEN THE CHIPS ARE DOWN

sad man at work

There are some moments things could be down to the extent that you would lose every motivation to continue. You are at your lowest point at this point, and if you don’t pick yourself, you might just lose it.

When you feel the chips are down, try to motivate yourself by doing this:

1. DON’T FEED THE THOUGHTS

When the chips are down, don’t feed the thoughts; think about other things. Feeding the thoughts of what’s making you down might just make matters worse, but taking your mind off it for a bit could clear your mind for the better.

2. ACT HAPPY

Science has found that faking a smile could trick your body into believing that you are happy. So, fake a smile, act like you are happy and pretend that all is well. It might not necessarily solve the problem, but it would make you feel better — and that’s a step in the right direction.

3. PRAY

I believe in God, and to everyone else who does, saying a word of prayer could make you feel at peace even at your lowest point. Learn to say a prayer; prayer means talking to God — so just say a word of prayer and letter your mind be at peace.

4. BE KIND TO YOURSELF

You need every bit of self-love when the chips are down. Be kind to yourself and don’t pay heed to negative thoughts because you feel things are going against you. All it takes is a moment for a breakthrough to happen; have a bit of compassion and be kind to yourself. You would be at peace when you do this.

5. BE KIND TO OTHERS

Ordinarily, helping someone in distress might not be what you would think of when you are down, but doing an act like this would raise you from your current mood and give you hope and belief, even when the tide is against you.

6.  LOWER THE PRESSURE

It would be a huge mistake to put yourself under undue pressure when the chips are down; it’s like pouring fuel on fire — you would burn out. Lower your expectations if need be, lower the pressure you put on yourself, and things would be better.

7. BE WITH PEOPLE YOU LOVE

This is a time you need love the most, and your friends and family — and the people dear to your heart would be needed in times like this. Never underestimate the power of love.

8. SPEND TIME DOING THINGS YOU LOVE

You would be surprised how time flies when you are doing things that you love, and things that would make you happy. You need every bit of happiness you can get when the chips are down.

It’s not the end of the world; don’t take it all out on yourself. Breathe live and let live — and enjoy this gift called life.
