A lot of people pay little attention to their nails, without knowing that the nails are another part that should be given attention. Below are things you know about your nails.

1. YELLOW NAILS

Yellowish nails happen as a result of age and can also be caused by smoking; smoking can cause your nails to have stains. Ladies can also have yellowish nails as a result of wearing acrylic nails or painting their nails. If that’s the case then you should take a break from painting your nails, so that it could get restored to its previous condition.

2. WHITE SPOTS

White spots on the nails could signify a minor trauma like hitting your finger against something. Though some suggest it could also be as a result of calcium deficiency ā€“ that is hardly the case. However, if it remains persistent, it could be a fungal infection.

3. SPOON NAILS

Thin nails that have concave shape are referred to as spoon nails; nails like this could indicate iron deficiency anaemia. When the nails become extremely pale, it could be as a result of iron deficiency anaemia. It’s advised to see a doctor, and it can be treated with iron supplements.

4. WEAK NAILS

5. BLACK STRIPES OR OVERGROWTH

It’s advised to see a doctor immediately this is spotted. This is also a symptom of melanoma, a type of cancer or tumour that begins as a dark spot or area on the skin.

6. CURVED NAILS

When the tip of your nails becomes swollen and the nails become curved, it could be a sign of kidney or liver disease and it’s advised to see a doctor immediately.

7. VERTICAL RIDGES

Normally, this is a sign of ageing; as you age, you could also get lines on your nails ā€” this is normal. However, excessive nail-biting can cause vertical ridges to appear on your nails ā€” it could also be a sign of obsessive-compulsive disorder.

8. HORIZONTAL RIDGES

This is also as a result of direct trauma to the nails. It could also be a sign of a serious illness and could appear on some of your nails when your body is working to fight an illness. It’s your body’s way of saying it would rather fight that illness and starve the growth of your nails.

It’s important you pay attention to your nails; it passes a lot of message about your body you wouldn’t ordinarily know.
