Do you know that kissing isn’t just kissing? It comes with its own health benefits as do fruits, vegetables and supplements.
Even though kissing is a way of expressing our love for our partner, it does more than just that health wise and its benefits are just too numerous.
If you haven’t been kissing your partner, I’d give you 8 reasons to do so:
1. BURNS CALORIES
Even though kissing cannot be compared to a vigorous exercise, it’s still a good means of burning those calories. A vigorous kiss can burn up to 8 -16 calories.
2. LOWERS BLOOD PRESSURE
Kissing can also help your blood pressure in ways you cannot imagine. Research has shown that kissing helps dilate your blood vessels, and this can in turn help lower your blood pressure. It helps blood flow across your vital organs and helps the heart beat healthy.
3. LOWERS STRESS LEVELS
Stress is one word that’s most usually associated with many working class adults; but do you know that a kiss a day can help lower your stress levels? Researchers from the Arizona State University did a study to test the health benefits of kissing as regards stress level. 52 people were asked to spend a good part of 6 weeks kissing their partner daily. Results from the study found that not only did they feel much closer to their partners, their stress level was significantly reduced.
4. HELPS FIGHT CAVITIES
Kissing is also a good form of fighting cavities. The saliva production in your mouth increases when you kiss, and this can help wash away the plaque in your teeth that leads to cavities.
5. HELPS BOOST YOUR MOOD
Kissing is one of the best techniques that would help boost your mood. When you kiss, the brain releases certain feel-good chemicals like dopamine, oxytocin (which is known as the love hormone) and serotonin. The release of these hormones would help you relax, feel better and reduce your stress levels.
6. BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM
Research has also shown that kissing has a significant impact on the immune system. Research suggests that swapping saliva is a good way to fight common cold. According to a research published in Medical Hypotheses, kissing is an evolutionary adaptation that protect against cytomegalovirus, a common virus that belongs to the herpes family of viruses. This could be said to be counterintuitive as cytomegalovirus can also be transmitted through kissing.
Another research published in Physiology and Behaviour found that kissing can improve your resistance to allergic reaction.
7. RELIEVES PAIN
Kissing also has a health benefit of easing pain. Kissing releases a chemical in the body called endorphins, and it’s been scientifically proven that these hormones can be compared to the benefits of a pain reliever. It can also help ease pains resulting from headache and menstrual cramps.
8. BOOSTS YOUR CONFIDENCE AND SELF-ESTEEM
Kissing also has a significant impact on your confidence level and self-esteem. According to a German study, men who got a juicy kiss from their wives made more money at work; now, that’s confidence in action.
Now that you know these health benefits that come with kissing, why don’t you get all those health benefits with your partner; but remember to always have a good oral hygiene.
