If you have been an ardent reader of El Crema, then by now you have probably had enough knowledge on water and its importance.
There is still this disagreement among health experts on the adequate amount of water an individual should consume daily. While many have come out to debunk the popular 6 – 8 glasses of water daily, a recent study even suggests that 4 glasses of water daily is enough for an adult.
But one sure thing is that water intake cannot be compromised, and dehydration is an issue you shouldn’t allow. Water is actually very important and irreplaceable and there are signs your body shows when you aren’t drinking enough.
1. FATIGUE / MOODINESS
You easily feel fatigued when you are dehydrated — fatigue is one of the early signs of dehydration. Also, when your water intake is low, your energy level could drop and this could lead to you feeling moody.
2. DRY SKIN
Water is also important for your skin health and a lack of it can lead to premature ageing and wrinkles. Your body produces less collagen when you lack enough water and this could cause your skin to become dry and less moisturised.
3. DRY MOUTH / BAD BREATH
As mentioned in the article on getting rid of mouth odour, drinking water is one of the ways to get rid of mouth odour.
Dry mouth is a sign of thirst, and when the mouth is dry, it becomes difficult for the saliva to wash away some naturally occurring bacteria in the mouth. This bacteria build-up can cause your mouth to have a bad odour.
4. THIRST
Of course, thirst is an early sign of dehydration. Thirst is your body’s way of telling you that you need to drink water.
5. HEADACHES
A lack of water can also cause you to have headache. You should know that the brain is mostly made of water (about 75%). If you keep getting headache, it could be your brain telling you that you need to drink more water.
6. CONSTIPATION
Water is highly important in both digestion and excretion. One of the dangers of not drinking enough water is constipation.
7. YOUR URINE
From the colour of and frequency of your urine, you can tell if you aren’t drinking enough water.
If your urine colour is concentrated and you urinate less than five times a day then it’s a sign that you are not drinking enough water. When your body lacks enough water, your kidney would trap extra fluids in order to maintain body functions leading to a concentration of your urine.
Water is non-negotiable and shouldn’t be joked with. When you notice that you probably haven’t had enough water, be sure to drink a glass of water almost immediately.
