In a previous article on signs your relationship is making you depressed, I revealed that it isn’t just stress and life’s pressures that could make one depressed; even your relationship or marriage could make you depressed.
There are some kinds of relationships that could easily throw one into depression. See some of them below;
1. AN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP
There are two kinds of abuse — physical abuse and emotional abuse, and either of them can make you feel depressed. People tend to suffer a lot from physical and emotional abuse in their relationships, and some even suffer the both of them combined.
2. A RELATIONSHIP WHERE YOU ARE CONTROLLED
There is a reason why it’s called a relationship and why you and your partners are called partners. But in a relationship where you are controlled and dominated, you lose your self-values and this could make you depressed and isolated.
3. A RELATIONSHIP WHERE YOU ARE ALWAYS BLAMED
A relationship where your partner blames you for everything and doesn’t take any blame is a toxic one and a relationship as such could make you feel depressed.
4. LACK OF LOVE
A relationship where you love your partner dearly and you aren’t loved in return is another kind of relationship that’s unhealthy and can make you feel depressed. When you feel loved and wanted, your self-esteem is given a boost, but when you love your partner and you aren’t loved in return, you could feel depressed.
5. YOU ARE TAKEN FOR GRANTED
No one loves to be undervalued and treated like worthless beings, but being in a relationship where you are treated in such a way could make you feel depressed. Love brings a feeling of value, but a lack of it could make you feel undervalued and depressed.
6. WHEN YOUR PARTNER DOESN’T PLAY HIS/HER ROLE
Everyone has a role to play in a relationship and when you are in the kind of relationship where you play your role and your partner is nonchalant about his/her role, you could get depressed for it.
7. WHEN YOUR PARTNER IS DEPRESSED
Depression could be contagious, and when you have a partner that’s suffering from depression, especially a partner that you truly care about — if you aren’t careful, you could gradually begin to get depressed because of your partner’s depression.
These seven kinds of relationships could make one depressed.
