There are some behaviours, attitudes and characters that should be kept far from your relationship. These behaviours would easily ruin your relationship, and could lead to other deadly traits like contempt, frequent arguments and even dislike, that could lead to the end of that relationship.
What are the behaviours you should be wary of?
1. BEING OVERLY RIGHT
Attitudes that portray you know it all, and that you’re never wrong aren’t good for your relationship — that’s if you want to keep it healthy.
Being overly right, or trying to be right in every situation would kill communication with your partner and lead to frequent quarrels.
2. NOT ACCEPTING CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM
It’s also not a good relationship behaviour to be defensive at all times; to not accept criticisms even when you are wrong.
While some partners act like they are always right, some act like they are never wrong, and these two behaviours can make you ‘undateable’.
Accepting constructive criticism and acknowledging when you’re wrong shows strength in character.
3. BEING OVERLY CRITICAL
This is another behaviour that would create a divide between you and your partner. Complaining about everything; the little things, the small things, the irrelevant things would create a pathway for many dangerous traits to overshadow your relationship.
Also, another terrible behaviour most people are guilty of is attacking the character of their partner rather than communicating about the behavior you are uncomfortable with.
4. REVENGE
Another place where many relationship partners get it wrong is seeking revenge.
How can you be in a relationship with someone you love and hope to build a happy and healthy relationship with, and you still seek revenge?
Love can’t grow where you harbour revenge; they are two opposite characters that can’t be together.
5. PRETENCE
Pretending about how you feel, pretending about what you want, pretending to be who you aren’t just to please your partner can affect your relationship. Pretence shows that you’re fake and inauthentic, and how can you have a healthy relationship with with a fake attitude?
6. TEXTING AND COMMUNICATION
Research has proven that smartphones are a major cause of relationship mishaps. Smartphones have taken away togetherness from couples and it has also taken communication, not to talk about the sex life of many married couples.
Being busy on your phone when communicating with your partner is a bad behaviour. Communication cannot be effective in such a situation.
Also, I see partners on dates and on their smartphones at the same time; this is another bad relationship habit to keep. How then can you communicate properly?
Are you guilty of any of these behaviours? It might not augur well for your relationship.
