Social media is increasingly gaining relevance and popularity among people with each passing day. Everyone wants to be a part of the hottest platform, and with the amount of money available to be made off it, there are people out there who would go to any length to take advantage of accounts they find lucrative enough.
Accounts are hacked often these days, so it’s important that we’re very careful who we divulge information pertaining to our social media. It’s important to also note that sometimes, you don’t have one to do something wrong to be a victim of hacking. Luckily for us though, we can avoid being in such a position with the help of this post.
These are some of the signs your account might be exposed to hacking. Just watch out for any of these suspicious activities on your page.
YOU CAN’T LOGIN TO YOUR ACCOUNT
When hackers hit, the first thing they do is change the password of the account they hit. This makes it practically impossible to stop them from carrying out their evil act. If you try to login to your account unsuccessfully over and over again, the best thing to do is contact your social media platform directly so they help you secure it.
YOU SEE STATUS UPDATES THAT AREN’T YOURS
So you haven’t been on your page for a while, and then, you do, only to find that there have been some updates you didn’t put there? Well, it’s a sign someone has gotten a hold of your page, and you need to notify the platform for help.
LOGIN NOTIFICATION FROM A LOCATION YOU’RE NOT AT
This actually happened to me once. I was in my city, and suddenly, I got notification from Gmail that someone was trying to log into my account from a different location, with a different browser around the same time. It had me shaken, but Google also gave me a direct link to change my password, so I quickly did, and it’s been secure ever since.
YOU CAN’T FIND YOUR POSTS
Deleting older posts is also a trademark move for most hackers. This is mostly if they want to punish you or they just want to steal your account from you. To do the latter, they’d especially need a fresh looking account, hence deleting older pictures?
YOUR DISPLAY / COVER PICTURE IS REPLACED
Happened to my friend recently. She woke up to notice she’d lost a good number of her pictures on instagram. It was very devastating, but luckily, she had someone around who’s good at internet services, and he helped her retrieve some of them.
Hacking is real, so we need to be more careful. Hackers mostly target pages and accounts with simple and weak passwords. It’s a good idea to choose something no one else can guess but you.
