6 REASONS WHY YOU FIND IT HARD TO DO THE RIGHT THING

A quote by Norman Schwarzkopf Jr.: “The truth of the matter is that you always know the right thing to do. The hard part is doing it.”

So why do people keep doing the wrong things when they know it’s wrong?

1. YOU DESIRE THE WRONG THINGS

In spite of knowing the right and wrong things to do, people somehow feel drawn to do the wrong thing and most times act on the feeling of doing that which is wrong.

2. LACK OF DISCIPLINE

It takes discipline to say no, to do what’s right even when it doesn’t seem pleasant. It takes discipline to do the right things always, to have self-control and focus. Inability to do these is as a result of lack of discipline.

Lack of discipline makes it difficult for people to do the right thing.

3. WRONG ASSOCIATION

The company you keep and the association you find yourself with all play a role in your life, and you’ll find it hard to do the right thing when you are with the wrong company.

4. YOU FEED YOUR MIND WITH THE WRONG THINGS

Your mind is your control room; what you believe, how you act, your thinking pattern and everything you do is a sum of what you have invested in your mind. If you feed your mind with the wrong things, you’d do the wrong things: There’s no secret about this. Getting your mind to push you to do the right things starts with you feeding it with the right things. Your mind gives you what you give it; so feed it with the right thing.

5. YOU LACK MORAL STRENGTH

It takes moral strength and courage to make a decision when the odds are against you. It takes moral strength to peel away from the crowd and do what’s right, and not what the crowd is doing.

6. YOU BELIEVE IT WON’T CATCH UP WITH YOU

A lot of the times, people who do the wrong things know that they are doing what isn’t right, but they keep doing it because they feel it won’t catch up wit them.

Every driver knows that over speeding isn’t good but many drivers tend to go beyond the speed limits because they feel they can get away with it. If they can clearly see death and accidents beforehand many won’t drive recklessly. So it’s the thinking that you won’t pay the repercussions that make people do wrong things.

Doing the right thing isn’t so hard after all; it starts with your mind.
