Trust is one thing that’s lacking in the world today; it’s hard to gain but easy to break. However, inasmuch as trust is hard to gain, there are so many people who are easily trusted wherever they go, while many are also distrusted from the onset.
So, what makes some people trustworthy and others not? It all has to do with habits, behaviour and character. What people see in you is definitely how they would treat you.
These six reasons would make people have no trust for you.
1. YOUR PAST BEHAVIOUR
If people have seen you do the wrong thing in the past, they would hardly trust you afterwards. A lot of people are distrusted for things they have done in the past. The past always matters; it would take a lot to change people’s perception about your past.
2. YOU DON’T LISTEN
People tend to trust those who listen to them. There is a difference between hearing and listening to someone; people tend to feel respected when they are listened to, and they would trust you afterwards. However, if you pretend to listen to them, they would easily notice and have no trust in you. Respect breeds trust.
3. YOU DON’T TRUST PEOPLE
You must have heard the saying that ‘trust begets trust’. Trust is reciprocal; people would tend not to trust you if they perceive that you don’t trust others. People who are trustworthy tend to trust people too, especially if they are trustworthy. But people with negative hearts are the ones who rarely trust, and such people would find it hard to gain the trust of others.
4. FAILURE TO DO WHAT YOU SAY
I used to have a mischievous and funny teacher who would tell us to rather do what he says than what he does. In simpler terms, his actions weren’t worthy of trust.
I can liken that situation to this; people would trust you when you do what you say and distrust you when you can’t meet up to your own words. People would trust you more when you are a man of your words.
5. YOU’RE INCONSISTENT
People would find it easier to trust you if they know what to expect from you. When you live an inconsistent lifestyle, it becomes difficult to truly trust you. People want to know what you really stand for and want you to live by it — this way, it would be easier to trust you.
6. YOU GOSSIP
I’ve never seen a gossip that’s trusted by people, or even a talkative. Gossip is mostly born out of idleness and is targeted at other people’s private life. You can never win people’s trust if you are such a person.
Do you think people find it hard to trust you? Your habits are what would determine if people would trust you or not.
