6 EASY THINGS TO DO WHEN YOU CAN’T SLEEP AT NIGHT

Sleep is important and all, but there are a lot of people who find it difficult to sleep well at night. For some, it’s deliberate, and for others, it’s a problem they didn’t ask for, and so are looking for ways to free themselves from the problem.

There are a number of things that can hinder sleep at night, identifying and possibly staying away from some can be key.

AVOID TV AND YOUR MOBILE PHONE AT NIGHT

Watching the television or scanning through your phone late at night could be another reason you find it hard to sleep immediately you get into bed.

You might ask, what’s wrong with watching television or going through your phone before sleep?

Let’s assume you are watching late night news from the television and you are updated on the latest happening. You literally just put you mind to work, as your brain will keep processing the information and scenes it just saw and heard. Due to this, you will experience difficult in sleeping. It is advisable to get away from your gadgets an hour before going to the bed so as to get a good sleep.

So if you’re guilty of this act, you should try switching off your gadgets an hour before bed.

AVOID WORRYING ABOUT THE SITUATION

Sleeplessness can be frustrating. Therefore, it’s natural to be worried about it. I have personally been in the situation countless times, and I always worried about what could be responsible until I realised it only worsened the problem.

Worry doesn’t solve problems, it only serves as a distraction, and causes them to linger. So next time you find yourself in desperate need of some sleep, try not to worry, just take your mind off it, and pretend it’ll come.

AVOID EATING HEAVY BEFORE SLEEP

There are people who don’t have a problem sleeping regardless of what they eat; heavy or not, and there are others who don’t react well to heavy food before sleep because it causes discomfort and sometimes, takes a while to be digested. Where there’s discomfort, there can’t be sleep, so eating light before sleep can be the best way to go for everyone.

AVOID DISTRACTIONS

To get a good night’s sleep, you have to eliminate all forms of distractions around you. Distraction will keep your mind wandering which makes it difficult for you to get good sleep.

When the eyes are open, they keep picturing and sending scenes to the brain to process, which means your brain is at work, and you wouldn’t be able to sleep.

Your brain needs to shut down all processing for you to sleep. Such distractions could be in form of interaction with people in your room or outside, sleeping with the lights on, loud music etc.

Distractions of any kind should be eliminated to get a good sleep.

TRY TO SLOW DOWN YOUR BREATH

When you get into bed and you are experiencing difficulties to sleep then you should try to slow down your breath a bit.

This exercise tends to get the body in the mood to sleep as it tends to make the body cool and keep the mind focused on breathing slowly.

When doing this, try to keep your eyes close to keep the focus tight.

PLAY SOME MUSIC

Playing some music can also help with sleeplessness. But of course, it can’t be just any kind of music; it has to be slow and soothing music. If you experience any difficulty sleeping, just play your favourite slow music, and watch it calm your nerves, and send you to sleep slowly, but surely.
