For some reason, a lot of mobile phone users think that the only time one can actually put their phone in ‘Airplane’ mode is when they’re flying. It is a wrong assumption, but you can’t blame them anyway, after all, the title can be a little misleading.
The airplane mode available in mobile phones isn’t meant for flying only; it can add other benefits to your mobile phone, including the following.
IT CAN EXTEND BATTERY LIFE
One of the single biggest battery drainer on your phone is your communication network. To locate phone masts, your phone is always emitting radio waves to see where they are, analyzing signal strength to determine whether a switch to a closer tower is needed, or as is often the case when travelling, looking for a network to roam on. So, if you are running low on battery, you can place your phone on airplane mode so that you do not run out of battery.
GREAT FOR REST
Putting your phone in ‘Airplane’ mode denies it access to mobile networks, which means you wouldn’t be able to review or make calls, or browse the Internet. This may sound tough to live with, but if you’ve been through a hard day, and are looking to cool off, there’s no better way to cut yourself off from everyone else.
FAST CHARGING
Unless your phone supports fast charging, if you’re looking to boost battery life quickly, the best way to do it is to turn off mobile networks. Of course the only way to do that is to switch to ‘Airplane’ mode.
DATA SAVER
Due to settings in your phone, you may be streaming or downloading and upgrading software unknowingly. All of that can consume your data in a crazy way. To cut data consumption when you’re not really using your phone, turning on ‘Airplane’ mode is a sure option.

In some cases, if you don’t get network services on your phone, the next thing you are likely to do is to restart your device. For phones and tablets, turning airplane mode on and off is essentially the same thing since it causes a restart of most networking services without rebooting your device.
