5 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD SHARE A ROOM AND SLEEP TOGETHER WITH YOUR HUSBAND/WIFE

Smiling couple laying in bed

Growing up, as a young man, I had parents who shared everything, including a room. Now, initially, that didn’t seem like a big deal, but over time, when I compared their relationship to that of our neighbours who had separate rooms, I could see the difference and appreciate the importance of togetherness for a married couple.

Our neighbors who didn’t share a room or sleep together didn’t have as strong a marriage relationship as my parents. They quarrelled more and seemed very distant from each other — things that were not a problem for my parents.

Having different rooms as a couple is not always a bad thing though, especially if there is a little child in the frame. Some men want to get enough sleep at night after the day’s hard work, so their wife and the new baby may have to get another room for a few months, but aside that, I do not see any good reason why married couples would want to distant themselves from one another because it does more harm than good, if you asked me.Why get married in the first place if privacy is what you want?

If you are one of those married people or an intending one who subscribe to the idea of couples sleeping in separate rooms, hopefully, this post will make you think differently after you read it. Here are a few reasons why I feel you should be sleeping in the same room with your spouse.

1. IT OFFERS A RARE OPPORTUNITY FOR COMMUNICATION

There are couples who belong in the working class, and so, rarely have the time to be together and talk due to their busy schedules. For couples like this, bedtime after work provides them the rare opportunity to come together and talk to each other about a lot of things — from work issues to personal issues, as well as issues that may border on the family and children, all of which are important to the continued survival of the union. You do know that communication is a vital ingredient in any lasting relationship, as without it, there’ll be no understanding. So sleeping together offers more communication, which will in turn, bring the couple closer, and preserve the marriage.

2. MORE INTIMACY, MORE TOGETHERNESS

A couple who sleep in different rooms may experience a slight difficulty in their romance because they don’t spend enough time together. Intimacy or sex is a product of contact. When you and your partner start sleeping in separate rooms, you see each other less, and when that begins to happen, the romance (sex life) in your marriage may gradually fade away and your marriage is what would suffer it ultimately.

On the other hand, sharing a room and sleeping together with your spouse would only make your sex life better because you see each other often, so there is a greater chance for you to have sex more. When you have frequent sex with your partner, you learn and master each other’s bodies more, so your sex life benefits from that, but more importantly, your marriage is even stronger.

3. IT WILL HELP YOU HAVE A FRIENDLY RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR SPOUSE

It’s not rocket science — the more time you spend with someone, the more you know them (and they, you), and the better your relationship with them becomes. Sleeping together with your partner in the same room would only help you to become used to each other, and learn how to be comfortable in each other’s company. This is especially true for new (young) couples.

4. IT IS GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH

According to researchers, sleeping together with one’s partner could be of great benefit to both you and them. Apart from the love hormone (oxytocin) which helps with bonding, that is boosted when a couple sleeps together, it is also believed that sleeping together can reduce the level of cortisol in the body. Cortisol is a stress hormone, which can cause depression and heart disease if left unchecked, due to an increase in cytokines.

Also, health experts say that the more sex a man has, the less his chances of getting prostate cancer.

5. IT MAY HELP KEEP CHEATING TEMPTATIONS AT BAY

Sleeping together will help you and your partner communicate more, help you bond more, and boost your sex life — these are all things that most strained marriages lack, and why couples may cheat once they perceive that someone else is willing to give them these things happily. So by sleeping with your partner, and giving them these things, you may be doing your marriage great service and saving it from infidelity.
