5 REASONS WHY YOU ARE ALWAYS HUNGRY

7

Do you always feel hungry for no obvious reason? Won’t you love to know why you are always hungry because excess hunger can tip you off to a physical or mental health issue and giving in to that need to feed can send your BMI into dangerously unhealthy territory?

Below are 5 reasons why you are always hungry

1. YOU NEED MORE PROTEIN

Adding more protein to your meals helps keep hunger at bay so if you are always hungry, you need to eat more protein. Protein promotes the feeling of fullness.

2. YOU COULD BE DEHYDRATED

Guess you are surprised dehydration is on the list. Hypothalamus is the part of the brain that regulates both appetite and thirst so when you are dehydrated, wires get crossed in the hypothalamus leading you to think you are hungry when you are really thirsty. Go for water when you feel hungry and you know you haven’t drank enough water that day. This is why you also feel hungry after taking too much alcohol because alcohol leaves you feeling dehydrated. What you need after taking alcohol is water and not food.

3. YOU DON’T EAT ENOUGH FAT

Unsaturated fat is also linked to feeling of satiety. This doesn’t mean you should eat any type of fat. Go for heart-healthy, brain-boosting kind of fats like avocados.

4. YOU EAT TOO MUCH STARCHY CARBS

Simple carbs like those found in cookies spike your blood sugar levels quickly and your blood sugar levels then drops quickly soon afterwards leaving you hungry and wanting more of the sugary carbs. Avoid simple carbs food as much as you can and go for food that contains lots of fibres like apples, almonds etc.

5. YOU SEE TOO MANY IMAGES OF FOOD

Seeing too many images of foods can leave you feeling hungry. A 2012 study from the journal Obesity found that just looking at food cranked up levels of ghrelin (a hunger hormone). Being around food all time can also leave you feeling hungry too.
