Most times, people frown more often than smile. But it’s important to know that smiling has a lot of benefits, and if you pick up the habit of smiling, you would enjoy its benefits.
Researchers have gone on to discover some tremendous facts about smiling.
1. SMILING MAKES YOU MORE CREATIVE
A 2013 study conducted by researchers from the University of California found that smiling can make you more creative. The researchers found that those who were happier had a better and more comprehensive approach to solve problems, and it also improved their ability to think better than the negative-minded people. The researchers made a connection between the release of dopamine which triggers happiness as the same neurotransmitter involved in learning and decision-making.
2. LONGER LIFE
Researchers from Columbia University have also found that smiling people tend to live longer. The researchers believe that a positive mood can increase life expectancy. Their findings reveal that happier people had a lower chance of developing heart problems.
3. SMILING CAN LAND YOU A JOB
According to a study published in Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, dressing nice wasn’t enough to get a job. To conduct the study, the researchers had observers look at photographs of 123 people they haven’t met. The people in the photo either had a normal look or put on a smile. The observers saw the smiling people as more confident, likeable, stable and intelligent; which are essentials interviewers aim to see in a prospective employee.
4. SMILING MAKES YOU MORE ATTRACTIVE
If you want people (the opposite sex especially) to get endeared to you, smiling should be your best tool. According to a research conducted by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, 96% of American adults believe that an attractive smile makes a person more appealing to the opposite sex. So if you want to catch other people’s fancy, you should try smiling more.
5. IT GIVES A GREAT FEELING
The British Dental Association has found smiling to have great emotional response. According to their findings, a loving smile can produce same emotional response as eating 2000 chocolate bars.
There is never a good reason to frown, but numerous great reasons to put a smile on your face.
