4 REASONS PEOPLE FIND IT DIFFICULT TO LET GO

While I was in the university, I knew a very good looking young woman who was dating a scumbag. The guy would beat her, and treat her like she didn’t matter, yet she couldn’t let go.

I used to think it was either voodoo or she was just stupid until I grew older, and understood that it’s never quite as easy as it seems. Sometimes, people want to leave that bad relationship, but there are things we can’t see that stop them from making a move. Things like…

TRAUMA FROM YESTERDAY

There are people who have gone through abandonment in the past, and were traumatised because of it. Some people had absentee parents/siblings, and for people like these, there’ll always be that fear of moving on because they don’t want to be taken aback.

THE FEAR OF LONELINESS

Some people are wired to crave attention and love always. It’s their nature, and a moment without their significant other around them makes them feel empty and useless. People like this dread the thought of being alone and single.

THE FEAR OF NOT BEING ABLE TO MOVE ON

It’s not everyone that can move on swiftly. Some become so emotionally vested that they’re too attached, and the thought of letting go to restart everything all over again is so unbearable they consider staying where they already feel used to.

FEAR OF WHAT ‘PEOPLE WOULD SAY’

The truth is when you’ve been with someone for so long, and people around know you as a couple, the thought of quitting becomes a difficult one because you get scared and worried about what people would say. This fear is another reason people pretend everything is fine rather than walk away. But the truth is no matter how impossible or difficult quitting may appear, it’s always better than being in a relationship where you’re underappreciated.
