4 DISEASES TO BE WARY OF DURING THE WET SEASON

We’re gradually edging towards the time of the year when it pours a lot, and that means one thing – it means that a lot of diseases and illnesses will be flying around. Not being careful enough exposes you to these diseases, and of course, ignorance is a big killer.

So we’re sharing some of the common illnesses that are easily associated with the wet season in this post to ensure we’re all informed as we usher in June.

DENGUE

Dengue is a disease caused by a virus. The virus is often spread via a different kind of mosquito known as the Aedes. When the illness hits, it’s followed by the following symptoms, vomiting, headache, high fever, and joint and muscle pain.

INFLUENZA

Influenza is also called ‘flu’ for short. It is one of the most common diseases/sicknesses out there, and often comes with a cough, fever, severe aching, and catarrh. This illness hits almost on a yearly basis.

FOOD POISONING

Food poisoning is also mostly associated with the wet and rainy season more than any other. It is suffered mostly by people who eat food made outside. Most of these foods are made under very unhygienic conditions. This can be due to contaminated water, etc.

Food poisoning are caused mostly by bacteria such as parasites, E.coli and viruses. There are other undocumented causes of good poisoning, so the best way to prevent it is to practice good hygiene. Avoid eating with unwashed hands for example because you have no idea the kinds of hands you would have shaken before that time.

Flies and rodents also pose a lot of risk around your food. And if you find yourself stooping and vomiting, the best way to stay alive is to drink a lot of water to avoid dehydration.

LEPTOSPIROSIS

This is another disease that’s very common with the wet season. Leptospirosis affects most mammals and rodents, and is very easily transmissible to humans.
