11 THINGS YOU SHOULDN’T DO IN A NEW RELATIONSHIP

couple on a date

How you start a new relationship goes a long way in determining how long that relationship would last and how successful it would be.

Sometimes, the buzz and excitement that comes with a new relationship can push you to make a lot of mistakes that could potentially ruin the relationship. Well, that’s why you have El Crema.

The beginning of a relationship is a delicate stage of the relationship; many relationships end abruptly because they didn’t start off too well.

Below are things you shouldn’t really do in a new relationship.

1. DON’T PRETEND TO BE WHO YOU ARE NOT

In a bid to impress their new partner, a lot of people pretend to be who they aren’t; they live a fake life just to sell themselves to their partner. Well, this is a wrong thing to do; a relationship would never be successful if it starts this way.

If your partner wouldn’t love you for who you truly are then what’s the need for the relationship?

2. DON’T SUFFOCATE YOUR PARTNER

Yes, you fell in love with this new partner and you just can’t have enough of him / her; but you should be careful here, as suffocating that partner could scare that person away. Calling 20 times a day isn’t the way to go and the fact that you should be together doesn’t mean you spend every minute of the day with that person. The only exception to this rule is if your partner truly wants all that huge amount of attention and togetherness. Else, keep it simple.

3. AVOID A BORING ROUTINE

Doing the same boring routine everyday is just a fast way of killing your relationship. Learn to be spontaneous; do something new and spice up the relationship daily.

4. DON’T TAKE THINGS TOO PERSONAL

This is another mistake that could harm your new relationship. Don’t be that partner that can’t take a joke, or nag at the slightest thing or take everything so serious and personal. This is never the way to go.

5. AVOID THE LIES

When you start the new relationship with lies, I wonder how many you would tell with each passing day. Honesty should be practised in your relationship; never lie to cover your insecurity and never put up an act that would push you to lie.

6. CUT THE GAMES

If you are already cheating and playing funny games at this early stage of the relationship then you are being wicked and unfair to your partner. If you can’t be faithful and honest at this stage of the relationship then that relationship isn’t for you.

7. STOP THE ASSUMPTIONS

Assumptions can ruin your relationship; ask questions where you aren’t sure, try to learn about your partner rather than be quick to assumption.

Also, don’t leave your partner guessing or assuming about things you really ought to tell them.

8. DON’T DO ANYTHING SUSPICIOUS

At this stage, the relationship is new and you and your partner haven’t truly built a high level of trust for each other. Any suspicious act can easily ruin the trust at this stage of the relationship. So, try not to do anything that could cause your partner to be suspicious of you.

9.  AVOID TALKS ABOUT THE FUTURE

Yes, everyone wants a relationship with a future, but that shouldn’t be the immediate goal in that new relationship. Such talks are a bit too early. Some people (ladies especially) bring up marriage talks just a week after entering a new relationship, and that’s a grave mistake. The major goal of the relationship at that stage is to solidify the relationship, create a love and friendship that would last, and study each other to know if you are right for each other.

10. DON’T START CUTTING OFF FRIENDS

It’s too early at this stage to want your partner to cut off from their friends; rather, try to have a good friendship with them — it would even help your relationship.

11. DON’T TRY TO CHANGE YOUR PARTNER OR BECOME WHO THEY WANT YOU TO BE

This tip is two in one. Trying to change your partner at this stage of the relationship is like planning the relationship’s burial.

Also, you are your own person, with your own unique personality; losing who you truly are for the relationship is a grave risk to take.

These eleven things are a must not in your new relationship; they have the power to actually damage that relationship.
