10 THINGS YOU MUST DO IF YOU WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT

Having a bit of flesh in the right places can be awesome. It gives you that extra fitting when you wear certain outfits, but having excess flesh can be very bad. I mean, beside the fact that it can cause obesity and hypertension, they can also make you appear very awful in clothes. All the extra skin that hangs out from the dress…not such a great sight, you will agree, and that is why a lot of people around the world try hard not to gain excessive weight.

But like every other activity you engage in, trying to shed weight can be such a daunting task…if you do not possess the right information. Some people workout and workout, and try all sort of things in a bid to lose weight, and at the end of the day, they have little success. The reason isn’t because it is impossible to shed weight; the reason is because they have gone about it the wrong way. Losing weight is a process that involves a combination of procedures/steps; you must engage every detail, and maintain them in order to derive maximum results. For instance, it is not enough to work out; you also have to watch what you eat. People miss the point, and that is why I have put together this great guide to help you realise your objective, they’re the 10 things you must do if you want to lose weight. Read on, and thank me later

DO SOME WEIGHT TRAINING

WEIGHT TRAINING

Weight training is the surest way of losing weight because it increases your resting metabolic rate (the number of calories you burn while sitting on your butt). It also boosts your metabolism after you exercise: it (your metabolism) remains in overdrive for up to 2 hours after the last bench press. Some of the ways you can train your weight include; squatting, bench- step up, lunges, pull- ups, push- ups and crunches. Do single sets of 10 for each exercise…you’ll derive great results.

GO GREEN

Green-Tea

When I say, ‘go green’, I’m not talking about becoming a vegetarian, I only refer to green tea. You may have heard of their richness in fighting cancer, but you probably didn’t know they can also help you shed weight. Green tea contains catechins which increase levels of metabolism- speeding brain chemical, norepinephrine. According to a study by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, people who took green tea extract 3 times a day saw their metabolic rate increase by 4%. Metabolism is the break- down of food substances in the body for better functioning. Just visit the store near you for some…

DRINK MORE WATER

WATER

Contrary to popular belief, drinking water can actually help you lose weight. According to a new study in Germany, drinking about 2 glasses of water within a certain period of time can shoot up your body metabolism by as much as 30%. Judging by this result, they estimate that increasing your current water intake by 1.5 litres a day, a person would burn an extra 17,400 calories a year (about 5 pounds weight loss).

AVOID ALCOHOL

ALCOHOL

Alcohol slows down your metabolism by depressing your CNS (Central Nervous System), and when your metabolism is underperforming, it gives room for you to get fat. According to a study in England, when you eat food with high fat concentration together with alcohol (or alcoholic wines), most of the food is stored in your body as fat.

GET ENOUGH SLEEP

SLEEPING

It is important to get enough sleep; this is very necessary for the body to carry out its normal day-to-day activities. A study at the University of Chicago Medical Centre found that people who get four hours of sleep or less daily, had difficulty processing carbs (carbohydrates). This is because lack of sleep increases the level of insulin and stress hormone, cortisol in the body. When you’re exhausted, your body lacks the energy it requires for its normal functioning which includes burning calories effectively. So the best way to make sure your metabolism runs normally is by getting enough sleep daily (at least, 6 to 8 hours).

EAT MORE BANANAS

BANANAS

Bananas contain potassium which speeds up metabolism by regulating the body balance. When you’re dehydrated, you burn fewer calories. Make sure you’re getting at least, 2000mg of potassium; a banana has 450mg, a cup of milk has 370mg, and an orange has 250mg.

DON’T SKIP BREAKFAST

BREAKFAST

Studies show that eating breakfast plays a role in successful weight loss—about 80% of people who successfully keep weight off eat breakfast. When you sleep, your metabolism slows down, and the process of digesting food kick- starts it again. Aim for a 300 to 400 calories breakfast, such as high fibre cereal (like corn flakes etc) with milk and fruit.

EAT MORE FISH

FISH

I know you love your chicken and turkey, but they aren’t ideal for you…if you wanna lose weight, eat more fish instead.  Regular fish eaters have low levels of the hormone, leptin which is good because high levels of leptin have been linked to low metabolism and obesity.

TRY A NEW WORKOUT

JOG

The body is a survivor; it learns to survive. The more you do an activity, the more your body gets used to it, so you burn fewer calories. If you want to lose weight, consider changing your work-out routine. For instance, if you jog normally for workout, try biking instead. Since you’re new to that kind of workout, it becomes intense for you which can translate to a greater metabolic after- burn because your body is working harder to recover and get oxygen to all your tissues.

GET YOUR THYROID CHECKED

THYROID

If you notice you have a slow metabolism (your body takes longer to digest and break down food), it may mean you have Hypothyroidism or underactive thyroid gland. This condition afflicts a lot of people without them knowing it. The thyroid gland controls your body metabolism, so one of the first signs that it is off is an inability to lose weight. Your doctor can determine if you’re suffering from Hypothyroidism by conducting a blood test. If the result comes back negative, you’ll get accurate treatment (which should help you lose weight easily).
