For a relationship to be successful, the past has to be taken away from it and everything ought to be in the present. The moment you start bringing your past into your current relationship, your relationship will suffer.
These are some signs your past is affecting your relationship:
1. YOU STILL THINK OF YOUR EX
When you still hold on to memories of your past relationship and your previous partner, there’s no way you’d give your best to make your relationship work. And your relationship will start to crash from that point, because your attention is divided, and before you know it, you’d start finding faults in your partner and you’d start making issues of something that shouldn’t cause a problem.
2. YOU CAN’T OPEN UP YOUR HEART TO YOUR PARTNER
A lot of people get hurt from their past relationships or suffer something terrible and because of that, they close their heart and choose not to give their all to another man/woman. No relationship can work when it’s done half-heartedly; it would crash at some point.
3. YOU BLAME YOURSELF FOR PAST MISTAKES
A lot of people have made some terrible mistakes in the past and they still blame themselves for it till date. Holding on to past mistakes and not finding a way to forgive yourself is the worst thing that could hurt you in your relationship. If you can’t forgive yourself, then you would as well find it difficult to give love and be loved in return.
4. “MY EX USED TO…”
How many times have we heard people say words like these to their partner? It’s better not to be with that person than to expect that person to behave like your ex.
When you expect your partner to act, think and behave like your ex, then you are still living in the past. It’s even unfair of you to want your partner to be like someone else simply because of your selfish past desires.
To enjoy your relationship and for it to stand the test of time, you must take away the past from it.
