I’ve heard people say they want a better partner in their lives, and that they deserve to be with a better man/woman. But it’s a rarity to see someone who really wants to be that better partner and put in the required efforts to be that partner.
You ought to be a better person and partner with each passing day.
This article is for everyone out there who wants to be a better partner to that person they really love.
1. LEARN FROM EACH MISTAKE
One way to be a better partner is to learn from every mistake you make. You kill so many things in your relationship and even the love and affection when you keep making the same mistakes over and over again.
Learn from each mistake and try to get better from it.
2. COMMUNICATE MORE
Every good partner communicates, and you cannot be a better partner if you avoid this. Be willing to share your feelings and also listen to your partner’s; learn to communicate your emotions, needs and wants from the relationship and be ready to listen to your partner’s as well.
Communication is a two-way thing; listening and talking are what makes communication possible, and if you aren’t willing to communicate, you can never be a better partner.
3. LOOK FOR WAYS TO SHOW LOVE
Love shouldn’t just end at saying how you feel, but showing how you feel is also important. Look for pocket of ways to show your partner how you really feel about them and what they mean to you.
4. BE TRUSTWORTHY
Be a partner who can and should be trusted. When you do things that you shouldn’t do, or things that’ll kill the trust, you take your relationship backwards and can’t be called a good partner.
5. PRACTICE INTIMACY
Physical intimacy isn’t the only kind of intimacy; expressing your feelings by doing special things for your partner, telling your partner how much you love them and what they mean to you can also be termed as intimacy. Intimacy could be physical and verbal.
6. BE SOMEONE YOUR PARTNER CAN TALK TO
Be a safe haven for your partner; be someone your partner can talk to about anything and someone your partner can express their fears, worries and weakness to.
7. DON’T STAND ON YOUR WILL
Don’t be a partner who only wants their will to be done. Be open to negotiate and compromise at certain times, just to make the relationship move forward.
8. PRACTICE EMPATHY
If many relationship partners can learn to put themselves in the other partner’s shoes, many relationship problems wouldn’t occur. Learn to turn the table around and put yourself in your partner’s shoes.
9. LEARN TO HAVE A BETTER CHARACTER
We all have our personal baggage that’s as a result of our character and personality, and more often than not, these baggages kill many relationships. Learn to better yourself by cutting those areas where you fall short; your personal baggage could be anything.
10. DO NOT TAKE EVERYTHING SO SERIOUS
Try to be a friendly partner with a sense of humour, who could take a joke and joke about things. Develop the ability not to take yourself too seriously and take things too seriously. You can easily build friendship with your partner when you do this.
11. DON’T EXPECT YOUR PARTNER TO BE PERFECT
There’s no perfect partner and you shouldn’t expect your partner to be perfect. Learn to accept your partner for who they are, and try to love that person despite their flaws.
12. GIVE YOUR PARTNER ATTENTION
Your partner deserves your attention, and you cannot be a better partner if you don’t give your partner attention. Learn to pay attention to your partner’s needs as well, and try to be there for them.
13. BE PATIENT
Be patient if your partner makes mistakes, be patient if your partner isn’t doing something right. Be tolerant and nonjudgmental, despite your partner’s flaws and mistakes.
This might be hard, but it’s achievable, and you become a better partner when you’re patient.
14. BE SUPPORTIVE
Be there for your partner during those hard times, be there when your partner needs you, be supportive of your partner’s dreams, goals and ambitions.
Also, you should be the kind of partner who makes their partner better.
Being a better partner is something everyone should strive for. You cannot have a better relationship when you’re not a better partner.
