When the word cheating is mentioned in relationships and marriage, the first thing that comes to mind is having sex with someone other than your partner. But is that really the only form of cheating?
While having sex with another person might be considered the highest form of cheating, there are other forms of cheating which could hurt your relationship/marriage and you should be wary of them.
1. GIVING SOMEONE ELSE MORE ATTENTION
Your partner deserves your attention, and for the romance in a marriage to remain high, both partners ought to give each other total attention.
When you give someone else (either of the opposite sex or the same sex) more attention than your partner then you are being unfaithful to your partner; you cheat them with your attention and this could bring jealousy and other harms to the marriage.
2. SPENDING MORE TIME WITH SOMEONE ELSE THAN YOUR PARTNER
Spending time with someone has a worse effect than giving someone else your attention. You create a tense atmosphere in your marriage when you do this and you make your partner feel cheated and unwanted.
It isn’t bad to spend time with your friends, but when it becomes more than the time you spend with your spouse, then this could be termed as cheating.
Flirting is another terrible form of cheating that would also hurt your partner. If you are in a relationship or you are married, you should avoid having flirtatious relationships with someone else. This is a huge form of cheating, even though you don’t get to have sex with that person. Flirting shows intent, desire, lust and intimacy. Sometimes, flirting even leads to sex.
4. WITHHOLDING SEX FOR NO REASON
A lot of married couples do this, but it’s entirely wrong and unfair to your partner. In marriage, you swore your body to your partner and vice versa; so seizing intimate and sexual moments from them is unfair and a form of cheating. Acts like these push some partners into having other affairs since their sexual desires aren’t met.
5. DATING SITES
Some married people and people in committed relationships join dating sites to check other people out or be checked out, but this really is a form of cheating. Whether you get to have anything or not with anyone, you have created a platform for something to potentially happen — and it’s cheating.
6. CONFIDING IN SOMEONE OTHER THAN YOUR PARTNER
When you keep secrets from your partner and you reveal them to other people, you cheat your partner on information that they ought to know. Secrets shouldn’t really be a part of your relationship, and if it is, you cheat on your partner.
Lies are deceit and being deceitful is the same thing as cheating. You might think it’s harmless, but it isn’t. When you lie to your partner, you betray their trust, act on their intelligence and withhold potential information that they have a right to.
8. HIDING YOUR MARRIAGE STATUS
When you claim to be unmarried or deny that you are in a relationship, you are being unfaithful to your partner. Some married partners even go as far as taking off their wedding rings to hide their marital status; this is another common form of cheating.
9. ROMANTIC AND SEXUAL IMAGES AND CONTENTS
When you exchange romantic messages with someone of the opposite sex and have sexual chats with them or send each other revealing images then you are cheating on your partner. Even if you secretly receive those messages and images from them without sending, you are also cheating on your partner.
Cheating on your partner goes beyond having sex with someone else; there are countless ways you can cheat on your partner — and this is wrong and unfair to your partner.
